Pembroke Town Hall Timeline 1819 Built as the new Town Hall & Market replacing an earlier 18th century Shire Hall that stood out into Main Street on the site of Clock House (opposite). 1820 Former Shire Hall demolished. 1833 New Town Hall & Market described as ‘a plain modern building…and underneath it….a commodious area for the corn market’. 1847 Alterations made to accommodate the courtroom. 1875 New markets proposed to designs by K W Ladd including plans to raise existing council chamber roof. 1882 Above alterations completed. 1887 Iron plaque with town crest in roundel affixed to front external wall of building. 1911 Flight of external stairs to the left front façade removed. 1993 Extension built at rear to a design by Clair Julien. Pembroke Town Hall is a two-storey building, the ground floor faced with grey limestone. The ground floor has five round arched openings that were formerly open market entrances. The centre arch is now the main entrance and the flanking arches are windows. |
